MiFID II and FCA call recording: compliance for voice transcription in finance

TL;DR: Financial firms operating under MiFID II and FCA jurisdictions must maintain searchable, high-accuracy records of all client-related voice communications, including remote and mobile calls under FCA Market Watch 66. Engineering and product teams building for these obligations typically implement dedicated cloud infrastructure with defined data residency, controls that prevent customer audio from being used to retrain models on Growth and Enterprise plans, and transcription accurate enough that the resulting records hold up under regulatory review. Transcription and speaker attribution errors are not product quality issues in this context. They are audit trail failures, and regulators treat them as such.

Why speech-to-text accuracy matters upstream of your LLM

TL;DR: Downstream LLM performance is ceiling-bounded by upstream transcription accuracy. A transcript with a meaningful error rate doesn't produce proportionally degraded summaries or CRM entries. It produces outputs where hallucinated names, inverted logic, and misattributed speaker turns compound silently into every downstream system that reads them. Prompt engineering cannot recover information the STT layer never captured. Gravite cut call quality review time by 93%, from 15 minutes to 1 minute per call, once transcript accuracy was high enough to trust the output without manual verification.

Telephony-audio robustness: why 8kHz narrowband calls break generic STT

TL;DR: Telephony audio is constrained to 8kHz narrowband frequencies, stripping away the high-frequency spectral energy that generic 16kHz STT models require. Standard upsampling cannot recover phonemes that were never captured at the source, leading to transcription errors that compound silently into downstream NLU failures. Solaria-3 ranks #1 on Switchboard, the most challenging conversational telephony dataset, ahead of AssemblyAI, ElevenLabs, Deepgram, Mistral, and Speechmatics, ensuring your downstream LLM pipelines receive clean, structured data from real-world noisy call audio.

Gladia to join OVH Groupe, accelerating Europe's sovereign voice AI ambitions

Gladia to join OVH Groupe, accelerating Europe's sovereign voice AI ambitions

PARIS, France — Sept 21, 2026 — Gladia, the AI audio infrastructure provider trusted by more than 300,000 developers and 2,000 enterprise customers worldwide, announced July 31st, that it has been acquired by OVH Groupe, the parent company of OVHcloud and Europe's leading sovereign cloud provider.

The transaction would bring Gladia's speech-to-text technology, voice models, and team into OVH Groupe. Gladia will continue to operate as an independent product line under its own brand — with the same API and the same direct relationship with its customers and partners.

Combined with more than two decades of infrastructure expertise from OVH Groupe — over 500,000 servers across 46 data centers on four continents — the deal gives Gladia's product line a direct path to more compute capacity for lower-latency real-time transcription, greater resilience, and deeper European data residency guarantees, as well as the ability to innovate at a much larger scale.

"This is the moment we've been building toward since day one," said Jean-Louis Quéguiner, founder and CEO of Gladia. "I spent more than five years at OVHcloud before starting Gladia — it's where my journey in AI began, and where I worked alongside some of the most talented people I've ever met. Coming back this way, with the entire Gladia team, our product, and our independence intact, genuinely feels we’ve come full circle. Together with OVH Groupe, we're going to help shape what European AI will become: sovereign, full-stack, and built to compete with the world's biggest players. None of this would exist without the customers and partners who trusted us from day one, and we intend to keep earning that trust every day."

Building Europe's voice layer, together

The deal follows OVHcloud's acquisition of OVHai LLM (originally founded in 2011 under the name Lingua Custodia, then known as Dragon LLM) earlier this year, which marked the launch of OVHcloud's AI Lab — an initiative dedicated to training and fine-tuning the next generation of sovereign generative, agentic, and multimodal AI. With Gladia, that lab gains its voice layer: a full-stack API to process, understand, and structure audio across more than 100 languages, already embedded in products from companies including HeyGen, Livestorm, Selectra, Circleback, Recall.ai, Noota, and Leexi.

The acquisition also clears a path to native voice AI services distributed through OVHcloud and OVHai to a global customer base of 1.7 million, enabling Gladia to go head-to-head with the largest players in the industry.

What this means for Gladia customers and partners

  • No action needed. Your account, integrations, and API remain exactly as they are today.
  • Gladia stays Gladia. The product continues to operate as its own independent line, under its own brand, with the same team you know — not folded into or replaced by another platform.
  • Same team, same roadmap. The people you work with, the product you rely on, and the pace of development don't change.
  • Contracts and pricing are unaffected. Existing agreements and SLAs continue to be honored. Any future changes will be communicated well in advance, never sprung on you.
  • More resources to accelerate innovation. Backing from one of Europe's largest cloud infrastructure providers means faster scaling, stronger resilience, and more innovation, with full EU data sovereignty by design.
  • More detail to come. Gladia and OVHcloud will share more on joint offerings and deeper integrations in the coming weeks. Questions in the meantime can go to our support team.
